The current growth of the tourism industry is providing plenty of job opportunities for those who want to work in the hotel and hospitality sector. People who hope to work in hotel management are likely to have good job prospects, according to Brian Almquist, Trident Technical College's director of career and employment services, who told the Post and Courier that the tourism industry generates a consistent need for new employees. Lodging managers may have a variety of different duties but are generally in charge of making sure their establishment is run effectively. General managers' tasks may include setting prices, creating budgets, setting quality standards, and supervising and hiring staff. People who have completed a hotel management program may find they have the most opportunities in the field, according to the Department of Labor (DOL). Such courses of study include training in hotel administration, accounting, housekeeping, maintenance, marketing and other relevant areas. The DOL predicts that opportunities for lodging managers will grow by 12% over the 10-year period ending with 2016, with the growth fuelled by increased business travel, tourism and a large number of hotels that are planned to open in the next few years. |
