Health care has been named as one of the top sectors offering individuals the best chance of achieving their top career goals. According to the nationwide Universum Ideal Employer Survey, the industry, which employs around 14 million Americans, was named in the top three sectors that enable people to reach their financial objectives while fulfilling ambitions such as giving back to the community. Other top career goals the survey identified were having a good work-life balance (64%), job security (45%) and being competitively or intellectually challenged (39%). As the largest and fastest-growing industry in the US, health care is expected to offer good job security for those entering careers in the field. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, around 3 million new jobs are expected to be created within the health care industry in the decade to 2016 - and job opportunities are predicted to be good, partly due to the retirement of existing professionals. Demand is expected to be particularly high for registered nurses, it said. And, with professional health care careers such as dentistry, surgery and medicine requiring some of the highest standards around in education and training, health care also offers a challenging and stimulating environment. |
