Over the last 50 years, the cost of a degree-level education in the United States has continued to rise - but the value and benefits of that education remain undiminished. As a Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich once said, rising prices is one of life's "certain, inaliable truths". However, despite the cost of an education increasing in the US, zwire.com said the long-term benefits it brings - such as a better salary - still hold true. The site added that even with tuition hikes, an education can still be a "bargain" that "can pay off with a fulfilling and well-paid career". Indeed, statistics from the United States Census Bureau cited by the University of Georgia's Garbriella Walker show degree-holders can expect to see their earnings multiply by a factor of 2.2 over their course of their career, compared to 1.5 for those with a high school diploma. Statistics show that business is the most popular subject for US degree students. The research from the National Center for Education Statistics show that some 22 per cent of undergraduates in 2004-05 were studying in this field. |
