Adult Learners Becoming More Common at Colleges
06 March 2008
More and more people who have not been inside a classroom for years are choosing to return to education to get their degrees.

According to the Register-Herald Reporter, it is no longer unusual to see people of all ages working side-by-side towards the same goal of furthering their education.

Enrollment coordinator Anita Diaz told the publication that it is possible for anyone to succeed in these circumstances if they are determined and focused, from baby boomers nearing retirement to parents with young children.

She said that some common concerns among those who return to college is that they will not have enough time to study or enough money to begin a course.

However, financial aid and online learning programs may help answer these concerns and provide new opportunities for all types of learners.

The most recent statistics from the National Center for Education Statistics reveals that participation in adult education has increased from 40 per cent in 1995 to 44 per cent in 2004.
