Psychology graduates looking to enter the job market can earn some of the fastest-growing salaries of any social science degree holders. According to the Job Outlook 2008 report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, pay for psychology-related professions saw the highest average growth of any of the social sciences this year. They were up 10.7% to an average annual starting salary of $34,054, the Daily Bruin said. The US Department of Labor said psychologists are mainly employed by in non-teaching roles at educational institutions (29%) and in healthcare fields such as mental health, outpatient care and substance abuse programs (21%). Government agencies also employ psychologists to work in correctional facilities and law enforcement, it added. DOL projections show jobs in the profession are expected to grow by 15% in the decade to 2016, with particular demand from schools, hospitals, clinics and private companies.  |
