Senior Citizens Show Eagerness to Learn IT Skills
21 April 2008
An increasing number of older citizens in the US are seeking out more information on computers and computer programs.

The older generation is eager to become more tech savvy, according to Kristina Bostley, a 21-year-old senior at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, who was speaking to the Connecticut Post.

Ms Bostley runs computer classes for seniors in Connecticut, which cover the basic skills needed to work PCs and surf the internet. Over the few months since she started the sessions, more people have enrolled on the course - effectively returning to school to get the information they need.

The newspaper also reported comments from Stratford Baldwin Center's senior services director Diane Puterski, who said that more and more seniors are realizing that they can access a wide variety of information on the computer.

Shopping without transport, staying in touch with family members and researching illnesses are some of the things these people can do if they can use the internet, she remarked.

A recent survey from the Computing Technology Industry Association found that security is the most-sought-after technology skill by today's organizations.
