The continuing expansion of business and home internet use has created an "explosion" in careers in interactive fields such as web development, content management and design. According to Job Journal, careers in interactive media offer a chance to work in a "creative and swiftly evolving medium", where technical knowledge gained through qualifications and experience must be backed up with teamwork, communication skills and an ability to "think outside the box". "People who take on an interactive career expect it to be a fast-paced world," said Theresa Seybold of digital marketing agency Resource Interactive. Interactive careers cover a range of professions, from creative positions such as writer or designer to technology roles like web designer and information architect. Graduates interested in interactive careers should back up their degree with as much experience as possible through internships, volunteering or special projects in their current jobs, the site said. Web developers are included in the Department of Labor's (DOL) network systems and data communications analysts work group. According to the DOL, this group accounted for 34,000 jobs in 2006 - and it is predicted to grow by 82.3% in the ten years to 2016. |
