A stint working as an intern is increasingly becoming one of the best ways for graduates to get their first foot on the career ladder. Organizations are taking on more and more interns because they have seen their degree education complimented by practical work experience, the Daily Bruin said. According to figures from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, approximately 70% of internships currently lead to a job offer, an increase of 57% from 2001. Last year, 36% of graduates got their first job after interning with an organization, it added. Furthermore, with the increasingly global nature of the economy, many graduates are choosing to intern overseas. Intstudy.com said this can be an "excellent way" to experience different cultures and international business, as well as being a good method for testing the waters in a particular career area. Experience gained as an intern either at home or abroad can also help to beef up a resume when applying for other jobs, it added. |
