Sports Promotion Career Can Be Dream Come True
30 May 2008
Sports management graduates could have the chance to be involved in professional sports they love through a career in marketing and promotion.

Richard Seidlitz, head of licensing for the National Football League told the Wall Street Journal that being involved in sports can be the biggest perk of the job for people who enter the promotion side of the sector.

He added that working in sports marketing can also offer opportunities to be creative, meet interesting people and travel to special events like the Super Bowl.

And while a sports-related degree can be useful, people considering a career in the field also need passion and the ability to work as a team, he commented.

The Department of Labor says jobs in the marketing, promotions and advertising sector are often highly sought-after, as earnings can be high and prospects for promotion are usually good.

There are currently around 583,000 jobs in marketing and promotions across all sectors in the US and this figure is expected to grow by 12 per cent between 2006 and 2016.

Median average earnings for the management positions within the marketing and promotions sector varied from $73,060 to $98,720 in May 2006, with further variations linked to location and job type.
