Liberal arts degrees may not focus on a specific career area like some vocational qualifications but they can nevertheless offer a way into a wide range of professions. MSNBC said liberal arts majors are commonly associated with occupations in fields such as education, public relations and publishing, but that does not prohibit liberal arts graduates from pursuing positions in sectors such as finance or "even health care". Norma Gaffin of Monster.com said graduates first need to "stop and figure out what you want to do", before choosing an industry that could work for them. In some cases, graduates may have to take an entry-level and work their way up, she commented. Alternatively, they could back up a liberal arts education with one or two vocational courses that will enhance their resume and impress potential employers. According to the Department of Labor, liberal arts graduates can pursue careers in areas such as journalism and news reporting, graphic design and market research. |
